Gender Roles

Why are we told what to like and what to play with? Like why can't society accept guys that play with dolls without calling them gay and why do girls have to play with dolls but can't play with toy cars? I remember growing up, I never liked playing with Barbies, but I played with my dad's old toy cars. I also liked to watch shows like Digimon, Pokemon, and Power Rangers. When I Was little you were aloud to be more of your self.

Know in this society your told what to play with. When your born your parents if your a girl paint your room pink and if you are a boy they paint it blue. If you are a girl as a present when you are little you get dolls, even if you didn't like them.  For boys they do have action figures but how about if you like playing with a doll.

The way we dress is also is also chosen by society. Like guys are made fun off if they were Ugg, if your a guy and like to wear Ugg wear them with pride. Ugg were first invented for guys. It's cute when a girl wears boy clothing but weird for boys to wear girls clothing. If a guy does wear girl clothing its considered weird in our society.

Video games is also a guy thing that girls play but they are forced to play as a guy. It's been recently that video games have a female player or that you can choose. I play games and I can't play as a girl in the games I like to play like in Grand Theft Auto but I have heard that you can make a girl in the new one. There are also very few games out there for girls.  I don't even think I have games for girls, when I was little for my GameBoy SP and Nintendo DS. I still have a PS2 and use my PS1 games and all of those games are for guys. I love playing them, mostly Tony Hawk.

When you grow up the women is suppose to cook and stay home. Why have we left this stereotype be?  I know a lot of dads that cook and clean for their families. I also know a lot of women that work and support the family. As a girl I think its good to have a guy that cooks because if you don't have time to make dinner than who will, you will probably starve.

I Just started noticing that in life girls and guys are treated different. Guys are still treated better than girls. I'm kind of hoping that in 2014 games will be made for girls, pink and blue will just be a color, and that boys can wear whatever they want.

  1. I agree completely that gender roles get nuttier by the day.. I've read before that clothing stores didn't segregate pink/blue clothes and such until the 1900s, and I also find it interesting that the cultures which get rid of gender roles tend to be by far the most productive.. Good post, it got me thinking! Also, thanks very much for registering at Teenage Blogger Central!
